The Hanna Garden - August

I’m so sad garden season is quickly coming to an end. While I have learned so much I’m already planning on the bigger and better things to try next Spring. I’m not certain I am going to get as much produce to preserve for the Winter and Spring as I was hoping for. I’m not sure I’ll take on canning this year but I do think I will try freezing a little bit of everything and seeing how it goes.

The seventh post vacation harvest

Holy cow will 14 days away from a garden make a giant wonderful mess. I had an insane amount of overgrown cucumbers and lettuce, my first red tomatoes, carrots big enough for picking, a couple sugar snap peas, a ton of green beans, and a couple jalapeños + zucchinis.

Said abundance of cucumbers

The eight harvest

Cucumbers for everyone

Due to a full schedule I didn't have the time to can the amount of cucumbers I got before they’d go bad so many friends + neighbors got a bag!

The ninth harvest

so . much . lettuce .

The first garden side dish

I got to bring the side salad to dinner with the in laws and successfully made a copycat Olive Garden salad with all fresh garden produce.

My daily morning garden watering help

1 dog

1 cat

2 pigs

24 chickens

I’m hopeful the garden still has a few weeks left before Nebraska decides to throw a curve ball freezing weather night. With that I’ll be back for a final September garden update next month! Sign up below for updates!
